Review : A very quiet, polished NAS, BUT A WARNING!
I have a Buffalo Linkstation and LG NAS for storage and backup, so will compare this drive to those two. My first impression is with how quiet this is compared to the other two. It is sitting in my lounge now and is inaudible.
What the average user wants is something that is easy to set up. This needs to sit near your router, or at least an ethernet socket, as it is directly wired into your network, and supports megabit ethernet. My network is only 100Mbps and I have used Homeplug/Powerline to connect it to the router.
The device runs Linux, like all other such devices. By default, it has a publicly accessible share on your network. By creating users, you can allow those users their own private storage for backup, etc. This is all done easily via a straightforward web interface, one of the clearest I have ever seen.
The media server is TwonkyMedia. If you enable this, you can stream video and audio files to any network-enabled TVs, vlu-ray players,...
