Great, fast, neat in a slim black case. Beware, if you are buying this as a cheap sata II drive. It is not. The electronics are USB3 and cannot be removed as on earlier models. This drive uses no adapters, it will ALWAYS be USB3. It comes preloaded with back up software and is formatted in NTFS.

As per the previous reviewer, my drive arrived within two days. Plugged it in and my PC picked it up straight away (running Vista) - was backing up within 5 minutes! Nice looking unit, genuinely pocket-sized. I was pleasantly surprised by the ease with which I could use it, having previously had to fight Vista to recognise anything! The cable has not been an issue for me and does not fall out on my drive, indeed it fits pretty tight. The included cable fits a normal USB2 (or 3) socket on the pc, and has a USB3 connector on the drive itself, so a standard USB2 cable is no good. I have found that this drive works fine plugged into my pc's USB2 port.

I had not heard of the Platinum brand before so did a bit of research and found they were a well known brand in Europe. A few other customers had written some useful reviews so I decided to give it a go.

I've had quite a few external HDD over the years with varying success:
- WD My Passport Essential SE 750 GB Silver Portable Hard Drive (USB 3.0/2.0)
- WD Passport 250GB WE
- Iomega (name escapes me)

The Platinum 104109 is the fastest drive to date. Its virtually silent and is powered by a single USB cable. I've tried transferring large files as well as multiple concurrent files and performance is very good.

I would have given it 5 stars but the picture of the drive is a bit flattering. The plastic used and the logo actually look a bit cheap but I would't let that deter you if your not bothered how it looks.

One more thing, i had no trouble getting this to work on both my Mac's and Windows PC. I just formatted the drive...

Review : Perfect companion for a Mac Mini
When I finally got round to replacing my old G5 tower, the top end of the Mac Pro range was in the doldrums - this was after the desktop Pros had been withdrawn from sale in the EU and before the 'Thermos' had been announced. I didn't want the inflexibility of an iMac so - somewhat trepidly - I ordered a (pimped up) Mac Mini, knowing that I would need to plug a lot of stuff into it to match all the functionality of my ageing Power Mac.

Storage was one of my main concerns - specifically the potential performance hit of using external rather than internal drives. The G-Raid 8TB drive brushes aside any of those worries, and I can honestly say that with this plugged into my Mini via the (separately purchased) thunderbolt cable it feels no different to using fast internal drives.

It's pretty quiet when running, more so with the addition of some vibration-damping pads stuck to its feet. If you've got lots of digital stuff and you want somewhere secure and accessible to...

Review : Ultra portable, ultra compatible, ultra easy!
Quick review: Perfect size, looks nice, compatible, quiet and doesn't overheat.

I needed a portable hard drive to store university work and other media on, and since I didn't want to get another memory stick (I keep loosing them), I decided to get a hard drive. However, I didn't want a hard drive that was too bulky to carry around in my bag, so I was cautious when looking around.

I ended up buying this; the Bipra portable hard drive, and I can say that I'm 100% satisfied.

It's small enough to fit in my bag without taking up too much room, but isn't small enough to loose easily; it's only a bit bigger than my iPhone! It came with a leather case, at which I was relieved, since it would save it from scratches in my bag!

I've had no problems with this; I just plugged it in and it was ready to go! I use it on both my Mac and PC, and it works fine.

It also came with a mini screwdriver which my dad has pinched and I haven't seen it since...

Review : Quiet, reliable
I bought a 1 TB Freecom Quattro desktop hard drive from Amazon Japan while living in Japan. It is not only an attractively designed product with its mat aluminium casing, it is quiet (its efficiency at dissipating heat means a fan is not required) and has been completely reliable since I began using it in November 2009. It is almost silent with only the occasional click or whir.

On returning to the UK I bought another one. The Quattro also has Firewire ports which is ideal for my Apple iMac and MacBook. And the brushed aluminium finish is a fine match for my Apple computers - of course the appearance isn't important but it's a nice bonus.

Freecom customer service also proved excellent when I enquired about availability of a UK plug adaptor for the AC power supply adaptor (for the Quattro I bought in Japan). Freecom resolved my query by sending me a new AC power supply adaptor free of charge (they retail for around
