The drive is housed in a filleted rectangle of the kind of sturdy plastic that never looks or feels particularly 'premium' but still somehow ages better than lots of other materials, such as aluminium. Slightly raised circles of shiny plastic accent the top in a polkadot pattern and the rest is a fingerprint resistant matte. It's a bit chunkier than say, a smartphone, but still rather small for 1tb of storage. It won't take up much room in your carry-on bag or backpack.

There's a single white LED next to the USB cable that flashes to indicate indicate activity. I'd prefer the light to be on the top side, since light can be easily obscured, but that isn't a big problem.

Performance:

The USB 3.0 interface makes this portable, USB-powered drive faster than my old mains-powered WD Elements drive by about 200% (subjective) while operating more quietly and at a cooler temperature. Backups and transfers...
