A very sleek, ridiculously small, perfectly formed bit of shiny blue drive that does exactly what I wanted it for.
I've already got WD Passport Elite's and Samsung S2's. Toyed with the idea of getting the Toshiba 1 Tb usb drive but didn't. The Tosh is massive in comparison and expensive to boot. The Samsung S2 has overpriced itself.
This drive is beautiful. I've a Galaxy S 11 and the drive is shorter by a tad (5mm ish) and just a weeny bit wider (5mm ish) again. You can feel but not really see the difference due to clever design. It's incredibly thin but doesn't feel flimsy at all; and has a nice solid feel to it. It came with a Y USB lead to boost power on those older laptops. I only need to use the one cable on my Samsung NC10. I've backed up a chunk of my music collection. 36GB transferred in less than 2 hours via my backup software. Not the fastest by any means but not the slowest either by far. Having recently lost several back-up discs to malfunctional Re-Writer drives, I decided to add an external hard-drive unit to my expanding arsenal of peripherals to ensure more effective data storage and protection. Like most people I wanted to get value for money, but the majority of the more 'economic' products appeared fraught with build-quality issues; so, as a result, I settled on this one when I came across it.
It is not inexpensive, but it is Sony, it is metal, it is quick, and it is quiet.
Its single USB 2.0/3.0 cable (a great boon for those prone to an attack of the vapours at the very sight of the wire-jungle already festooning the back-panel of their desktop) both powers the unit and transfers the data, and this plugged into my old-age pensioner PC and worked immediately with no glitches whatsoever.

These come formatted for whatever system you use, MS Windows or Mac OS X. I have an Apple MacBook and must say that this HDD is excellent value for money. It is very small (credit-card sized) very quiet and very reliable. The computer recognised it straight away and I have done several backups on it now. It is incredibly quick when reading/writing to and would definitely recommend to anyone planning on buying an external Hard Drive. Quick review: Perfect size, looks nice, compatible, quiet and doesn't overheat.

I needed a portable hard drive to store university work and other media on, and since I didn't want to get another memory stick (I keep loosing them), I decided to get a hard drive. However, I didn't want a hard drive that was too bulky to carry around in my bag, so I was cautious when looking around.

I ended up buying this; the Bipra portable hard drive, and I can say that I'm 100% satisfied.

It's small enough to fit in my bag without taking up too much room, but isn't small enough to loose easily; it's only a bit bigger than my iPhone! It came with a leather case, at which I was relieved, since it would save it from scratches in my bag!

I've had no problems with this; I just plugged it in and it was ready to go! I use it on both my Mac and PC, and it works fine.

It also came with a mini screwdriver which my dad has pinched and I haven't seen it since...

Review : A good harddrive - until it dies.
I've bought a freecom toughdrive some 2 years ago (approx..) - not exactly this model (just 500MB, 2 years old) and I really like the size of it. The rubber seems to make it quite sturdy as well.

The first problem was the cable.. Firewire - very fast, but then... at first it would work just once in a while, until it completely stopped working. The flexible cable apparently wasn't as flexible as it was supposed to be.

From now on I had to use the separate USB cable, which is fine, but a bit more complicated, as you always have to remember to take it with you. Nowadays I sometimes even have problems to get a connection via the USB cable - and if I do manage to get to my data, I've got a frightening "clack-clack-clack" noise. You all know what this means..

I'm now switching to Western Digital and am just glad I haven't lost any data (I usually keep a backup of my backup. better safe then sorry.)

Little major to say about a device that does exactly what I want of it as a last-resort backup drive kept away from the house. The only possible grumble that I might have is that its format does not support very large files. I use Paradign Backup and Restore, and when I switched from its default state of backing up in 4Gb chunks (as for DVDs) to making just one large main file, the program got indigestion! Solution obvious, and am now happy.

This is a great little hard drive. It is very small, compact and nice to look at as opposed to some of the larger ones out there. I bought this drive for my daughter to use to back up photos on her MacBook pro. After downloading approx. 10,000 photos the drive stopped functioning. I am now faced with paying for the data to be recovered from the drive. Amazon have offered a full refund but I will be out of pocket. Seagate's response has been less than helpful.

To augment the frugal storage capacity of my geriatric Mac Mini and to avoid prising the poor thing open to upgrade the existing drive and risking exposure to my clumsy fingers, I opted to give one of these a try.

It arrived in a small, plain cardboard box and the device is indeed small, although it's not really much different to most other passport sized external drives. The unit itself is reasonably well constructed, the carapace is plastic with aluminum rear and face plates. There are fixing screws at the sides which suggests that you should be able to swap out the drive relatively easily if it ever failed in the future. The rear plate features the mini-USB port, a power port (redundant in my case) and two LED activity indicators. The box contains all the leads you'll need and a user manual is supplied on a mini-DVD. I believe the disk also contains drivers for Windows 98 users.

Good to their word, the drive arrived pre-formatted for Mac and it connects...

Review : Mac time machine backup
Purchased this hard drive to use as a 'time machine' backup for my iMac; very good for the price. Worked straight out of the box. The Mac reformatted it, but that didn't cause any problems and easy enough to do if you follow the onscreen prompts. Generally runs quietly. Future-proof as it has USB 3.0. Overall very pleased.

This portable hard drive is a neat device that can be used for backing-up hard drives, providing additional storage for large files or to transport large files to wherever you intend to use them (from home to office for instance). Physically it is roughly the size of a 2oz tobacco tin, measuring approx. 85mm x 112mm x 18mm (W x L x H). It does not need any formatting, unless you intend to use it on a PC rather than a Mac. it plugs straight into your Mac via a USB 3 cable which is provided in the box (backwards compatible with USB 2) and does not need a power cable as it is powered through the USB cable.

Even some of the more recent models of Mac computers still use USB 2 ports so the data transfer speed is not as fast as it could be. However, that being so, this device can still transfer data a lot quicker than my previous external hard drive which was a Lacie, USB 2, 320GB external hard drive. Review : Failed after four months
This worked brilliantly for four months. Sometimes a bit slow with large amounts of data - it would copy some than have a rest and copy a bit more. Managed to get my entire CD collection on it for iTunes with GB spare. This morning it died. All it does now is click and wheeze, and eventually sit there with its green light on but not found by the computer. Since the warranty implies contacting Germany I have contacted Amazon UK for a replacement. Let's see what happens...

Meanwhile four months of CD transfers wasted. Maybe I needed a backup for the backup...

EDIT:
Two days after I contacted Amazon, a replacement disk arrived in the post. Now that's customer service that you could only dream of from the vast majority of suppliers. Well done Amazon!! I've added a star because of you. Now all I have to do is re-rip 1000+ CDs.
