Review : Excellent drive but the supplied software isn't the best
Not many of us are ready to trust the cloud alone with our backups. In any case, sending large quantities of data to the cloud can take days. This WD drive, or at least its accompanying SmartWare Pro software, lets you store data locally as well as in the cloud via Dropbox.

The drive itself is little or no different from any other USB 3.0 portable HDD. It's compact, quiet, smart-looking (no silly gloss black), comes with a useful soft pouch and seems durable.

It's pretty fast. I carried out several tests, e.g. writing and reading a single 1GB file and then a 10GB folder of files. The latter took well under 3 minutes to write, when connected to a USB 3 port. That increased to 7-8 minutes when I switched to a USB 2 port - a little faster than my portable Touro 1GB USB 3.0 drive.

Now for the software. The security and drive utilities are potentially useful but Smartware Pro is probably the main differentiator vs. similar drives. It's fairly comprehensive...
