I think the first external hard-drive I ever bought was about 6GB, was the size and weight of a small dictionary and sounded like a small Dyson when you switched it on - how times change. This WD My Passport 2TB comes in a case the size of a well-stuffed wallet (I would imagine) and is light enough to be forgotten about while it's in your coat pocket. The case-front looks like aluminium but it isn't, however the overall construction is good and feels sturdy enough. There are little rubber nodules on the underside to stop any annoying rattle while it's running and overall the drive seems almost silent, with just a very faint whirring. If you regularly need to carry it around then Western Digital make a hard WD Nomad Case but I chose the cheaper...
