I wanted a small and robust drive to replace and upgrade my Freecom Classic which has been excellent. It was the small size and rubber coating that appealed to me. However, I assumed that the rubber would be bonded to a solid case but that appears not to be correct. It is more like a pouch into which the uncased drive has been inserted, so that projections on the circuit board can be felt through the rubber. On the one I received, the rubber had not been bonded properly along the edge and the bare circuit board on the drive could be seen, risking physical damage and dust and dirt ingress. Although mine was defective, I didn't feel that the rubber would provide adequate protection anyway, as the pcb could be damaged easily if it received a knock. I returned the item.
I heard the USB connector is a bit flimsy. If it breaks there is not way to recover the data as it does not use the standard SATA connections...correct?
